Science Café: “20 Years of Academia Raetica: Research in Graubünden”

Science Café: “20 Years of Academia Raetica: Research in Graubünden”

Thursday, 10 December 2026
6 p.m.

Due to its alpine location, the mountainous canton of Graubünden has become a center for specialized research, such as in the fields of high-altitude climate, medicine, and the environment. Today, the spectrum ranges from medicine and the life sciences, through natural and environmental research, to the study of history, culture, tourism, architecture, media, theology, languages, as well as technology, computer science, robotics, and physics.

To mark the 20th anniversary of Academia Raetica, the association for the promotion of science, research, and education, we are shining a spotlight on Graubünden as a center for research. Representatives from various generations in the fields of research and politics will discuss the development, diversity, and future of research in Graubünden:

  • Valérie Favre Accola, Member of the Cantonal Commission for Education and Culture (2017–24), Mayor of Davos
  • Prof. Dr. med. Markus Furrer, Former Chief Physician and Medical Director of Surgery at the Graubünden Cantonal Hospital; Founding President of Academia Raetica
  • Dr. Rachele Delucchi, Director of the Institute for Cultural Research in Graubünden
  • Prof. Dr. Sibylle Grad, Head of Cartilage and Intervertebral Disc Research, Deputy Program Director of Regenerative Orthopedics, AO Research Institute Davos
  • Prof. Dr. Pascal Haegeli, Head of the Avalanche and Prevention Research Unit, WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF
