Terms of Use, House Rules, and Fee Schedule

1. Rules of Use

1.1 Target Audience

The Chur City Library is open to everyone.

1.2 Library Card

Upon presentation of an official form of identification, a personal library card will be issued, which must be presented each time you borrow an item. There is a fee for the library card.

Children and adolescents under the age of 16 require the written consent of a parent. Legal guardians will be contacted if there are any financial obligations (fees, compensation, costs, and outstanding returns) or if consent is needed for the use of photos.

The personal data collected by the library from its patrons is stored and used exclusively for library purposes.

Mutation

Please notify the library immediately of any changes to your name or address, or if your library card is lost.

1.3 Use

Maximum Number of Media Items

Media checkouts are limited by number and age group as follows:

  • Adult Subscription: 20 media items (age group 13+), including a maximum of 5 vehicles and large-scale games (age group 10+); unlimited e-media
  • Abo Kids: 20 activities (age group U16), including a maximum of 5 vehicles and large-scale games; no limit on electronic activities
  • Biblio-GA: Unlimited number of items per age group, including a maximum of 5 vehicles and large-scale games
  • Monthly General Admission Ticket: Unlimited number of items per age category, including a maximum of 5 vehicles and large-scale games
  • Digital Subscription: Unlimited number of digital media items per age group
  • O-Subscription: Grants access only to the Open Library; media cannot be borrowed

Media lending for the Chur City School is handled separately.

Loan Period / Renewal

  • Standard loan period: 4 weeks. A one-time renewal is possible, provided there are no reservations for the item.
  • For DVDs and magazines: 2 weeks
  • The terms and conditions of the respective online provider apply to the use of the digital library's resources. A one-time renewal is possible, provided that the item has not been reserved.
  • Vehicles and large-scale games cannot be extended.

Reservation

Items on loan can be reserved and must be picked up within one week; otherwise, they will be made available to other users.

Open Library

Early in the morning, late in the evening, and on Sundays and holidays, you can take advantage of the city library's extended hours.

  • Self-service check-out and return at the self-service terminals (except for vehicles and large games!)

How does it work?

  1. Scan the barcode on the library card
  2. PIN = Date of Birth (DDMM)
  3. Press Enter to confirm
  4. The door lock opens

Self-Checkout

Before checking out items yourself, please check that they are complete. Missing or damaged parts must be reported immediately. If no report is made, the items will be considered to have been checked out in their entirety. It is the customer’s responsibility to verify that the items have been properly recorded. The library assumes no liability for unauthorized transactions on the account.

2. House Rules

General Information

Everyone in the library is expected to be considerate of others. Please handle the media, materials, and furnishings with care. Please conduct yourself in a way that does not disturb, obstruct, or endanger other visitors.

Food and Drink

You are allowed to eat cold snacks and drink beverages.

Noise and Cleanliness

We ask that you be considerate and keep conversations at a reasonable volume. Please set your cell phone to silent while in the library and make calls only outside the library. Thank you for keeping the study and reading areas clean.

Technical Infrastructure

You are welcome to bring your own mobile devices. You may use any unoccupied, freely accessible electrical outlets to charge them.

Accessing websites with content that is subject to criminal law is not permitted.

Animals

Pets are not allowed in the library. Service dogs are an exception.

Smoking

There is a general smoking ban.

Access Outside of Staffed Hours – Open Library

Access is available to customers 16 years of age and older who have a valid library card (Biblio-GA, Adult, Monthly GA, or O-Abo) and a PIN. The card is non-transferable.

This area is under video surveillance. Please do not allow anyone else to enter the library. Vandalism, other acts of damage, and harassment will be reported to the police.

3. Schedule of Fees

Annual Subscription Fees

  • Biblio-GA: CHF 150 – CHF 120 with the ChurCard, CHF 60 with the KulturLegi
  • Adult Subscription: CHF 90 – CHF 70 with the ChurCard, CHF 35 with the KulturLegi; for students and recipients of AHV or IV benefits: CHF 70, CHF 50 with the ChurCard, CHF 25 with the KulturLegi
  • Abo-Kids: CHF 70 – CHF 50 with the ChurCard, CHF 25 with the KulturLegi
  • Monthly Pass (1 month): CHF 20
  • Digital Subscription: CHF 40 – CHF 30 with the ChurCard, CHF 15 with the KulturLegi
  • O-Subscription: CHF 40 – CHF 30 with the ChurCard, CHF 15 with the KulturLegi
  • Institutions: upon request

Note: If the subscription is not used, there is no right to a refund.

Other Fees

  • Media Checkouts or Renewals Without a Subscription: CHF 5 (general checkouts and renewals), CHF 10 for vehicles and large games
  • Reservation Fee for Vehicles & Large-Scale Games (5 or more units): CHF 20 flat fee or CHF 20 for a reservation change
  • Replacement of the library card: CHF 10
  • Replacement of the student ID card: CHF 2
  • Loss of media: Original price plus a CHF 5 processing fee
  • Loss of covers or game-critical parts: Original price plus a CHF 5 processing fee
  • Damage to or loss of small parts: at one's discretion

Reminders

  • Reminder: Free (1 day before the loan period ends, by email only)
  • 1st Reminder: CHF 5 (7 Tage nach Leihfristende)
  • 2nd Reminder: CHF 10 (14 Tage nach Leihfristende)
  • 3rd Reminder: CHF 20 (21 days after the loan period ends)
  • Reminders by mail: CHF 2

4. Final Provisions

Users are responsible for the materials they borrow and their use, as well as for complying with copyright laws.

The library assumes no liability for items brought onto the premises, lost, damaged, or stolen.

Legal guardians are responsible for children and adolescents up to age 18.

In the event of repeated or serious violations of the library rules, or in the event of a significant disruption to library operations, the library administration may temporarily or permanently bar a visitor from using the library.

5. Validity and Effective Date

Die vorliegende Benutzungs-, Haus- und Gebührenordnung gilt ab März 2025.
